Error description

  • Environment:
    - Windows XP
     - Rational Application Developer v RAD 7007 and RAD 7.5.3
    Reproducible Y/N: Y
    Description of problem:

After updating an xml file from the clear case, while the file i
s open in the XML editor, the user gets prompted to check out th
    e file.
Using update view instead of update does not trigger the check o
    ut.

    Step to reproduce:
    ----
    1. Change a xml file in a ClearCase explorer and check in.
    2. Open the file in the RAD XML editor
    3. Update the file/project from the Team-?Update menu
    4. A message asking to check the file out appears
    5. If you choose cancel
    6. The old version of the file remains in the editor. (The file
in the file system is updated)
The editor is marked as dirty
    7. Closing the editor and reopening it will open the updated/new
     version of the file.
    -----

    Workaround:
Updating the view instead of a single file can be a possible wor
karound. but a lot of times there is a need to update a single f
ile, and updating the view is problematic.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Editors built off of the StructuredTextEditor (XML, HTML,
JSP, CSS, etc.) had a document listener that would validate
the state of the underlying file. The problem is that if
the document change came from something like the filebuffer
(during a Team ? Update for example), it ran the chance of
validating the editor's input could be changed, so it would
request a check-out when it was unnecessary.

Problem conclusion

  • Removed the document listener responsible for validating
    editor input.
Modified actions that were once reliant on something else
validating input to do it on their own.
Fix delivered in Rational Application Developer V7.0.0.10
