Error description

  • Rational Business Developer V7.1.0.3:

NullPointerException generating COBOL programs with variable
length serial records.

A NullPointerException may occur when the definition of a serial
variable length record is made, and the variable length field
points at a structured field that is not at the top level in the
structured record and the structured record has not been defined
in the EGL source until after the definition of the serial
record.

Local fix

  • A fix test is available from support on request.

Problem summary

  • A nullpointer exception could happen if the serial record is
referencing a length variable, and that length variable is
in a record that has not as yet been analyzed in the source
(further down in the source code) and the length field is
not at the highest level in the record.

Problem conclusion

  • Software updated. Fixtest available.
