Error description

  • Per design certain application clients open and close a large
    number of StorageAgent/Server sessions at very high speed.
    This behaviour is typical during "crosscheck" or
    "delete obsolete" by Oracle RMAN via TDP Oracle, where a large
    number of objects may be queried from the TSM database, one
    session for each object query.

    An inefficiency has been identified in session queue processing
    that can lead to different degrees of slowdown:
    From an increased duration of crosscheck/delete obsolete
    up to the following message in actlog:
    .
    ANR0429W Session ... for node ... refused
    - maximum server sessions ... exceeded.
    .
    Any other client may experience the same problem if it opens
    and closes large numbers of sessions at high speed.
    .
    TSM Versions Affected:
    TSM Server and StorageAgent 5.5 on all platforms
    .
    Initial Impact: Medium
    

Local fix

  • Switching LanFree clients to "enablelanfree no" during
    crosscheck/delete obsolete may increase processing speed
    through bypassing the session bottleneck on the StorageAgent.
    .
    Increasing MAXSESSIONS does not necessarily help.
    .
    Experience on the reported z/OS system suggests that tracing
    the TSM server with
    "trace enable session addmsg admcmd" and
    "trace begin filespec MAXSIZE=300"
    changes the timing behaviour, so ANR0429W can be prevented at
    the expenses of a reduced general TSM Server performance.
