Error description

  • Using Rational Application Developer V7.5.1, when creating an In
formix Datasource from an existing connection on the Data perspe
ctive, the datasource is created with the configuration of the c
onnection but these are not compatible with Websphere applicatio
    n server.

    1. When you create a database connection from the Data perspecti
ve, only the ifxjdbc.jar is required and it is the only one prov
ided with the Data tooling in RAD.
When using this database connection to create a reference in a W
eb project, the EAR descriptor (resources.xml) will be updated w
ith the classpath of the connection: (right-click on the connect
ion and select 'Add JDBC Connection to Project..')

    ?resources.jdbc:JDBCProvider xmi:id='JDBCProvider_1232460351843'

name='Generated Informix JDBC Provider' description='Auto Genera
ted - Informix JDBC Driver' implementationClassName='com.informi
    x.jdbcx.IfxConnectionPoolDataSource' ?
    ?classpath?C:\Program Files\IBM\SDPShared\plugins\com.ibm.datato
    ols.informix.driver_1.0.0.v200803311841\driver\ifxjdbcx.jar?/cla
    sspath?
    ?classpath?C:\Program Files\IBM\SDPShared\plugins\com.ibm.datato
    ols.informix.driver_1.0.0.v200803311841\driver\ifxjdbc.jar?/clas
    spath?
    ...

The problem is that ifxjdbcx.jar is missing at this location.

    2. When using Informix 11 Data Server Driver, Data tooling will
use a jar file named db2jcc.jar while Websphere is expecting db2
    jcc4.jar
    (see http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinfo/v7r0/topic
    /com.ibm.websphere.base.doc/info/aes/ae/rdat_minreqinformix.html
    )

    Steps to reproduce

    1) Create an Informix 11 connection using the default JDBC drive
    r (provided with RAD)
    2) Add it to an EAR, right-click on the connection and select 'A
    dd JDBC Connection to Project
    3) Deploy the EAR on WAS and test it: error should be raised
    Caused by: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.informix.jdbcx.
    IfxConnectionPoolDataSource
