Error description

  • Using WebSphere Rapid Deploy (WRD) on a platform using a
    non-English locale does not work.

    Customer can run wrd-config okay to configure WRD.
    But when customer runs wrd.bat (wrd.sh) to start
    the WRD session, nothing happens. There is no output.

Local fix

  • This problem does not happen on a system with English locale.
    So, a work-around is to change the system locale to English.

Problem summary

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The WebSphere Rapid Deployment tool *
    * fails to function correctly on a *
    *                      non-English locale.                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When wrd-config is running it uses the translated style name
    to locate the style provider (Auto App Install or Free Form),
    however it is comparing it against a static English string.
    Therefore the style provider is never located and the WRD
    project is never constructed with the correct WRD builders.
    Therefore, when you run wrd to monitor the actions the
    corresponding build does not do any WRD functionality because
    it's builder is missing.

Problem conclusion

  • WRD will now use the ID value to locate the correct style
    builder to ensure that it's found on all locales.

    The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
    the WebSphere Application Server fixpack 6.1.0.23.
