Error description

• The Rational Application Developer V7 documentation is lacking t
  he following limitation to use the JSF requestLink and panelMenu
   component when it is used with JavaScript.

   in IE when the menu parent is hidden (but not disabled or unhoo
  ked from the DOM), the click may work (because IE will usually d
  irectly execute a click against a link tag without checking if i
  t can or not) but when the menu is visible/hooked into the DOM,
  the click won't work as the event handler chain is active and is
   explicitly managed). The behavior will vary depending on the ex
  act state of the menu bar (which cannot be known to someone prog
  ramming against the menu bar).
  
  So the net is that you cannot reliably use the 'click' method ag
  ainst the requestLinks in the menu bar.
