The JSF datepicker window closes automatically in about one seco
nd and selects a random value when the datepicker is located nea
r the bottom of the browser window. The behavior seems to occur
when the popup window is displayed above the accompanying text b
ox, rather than below it.
This behavior occurs when the application is running on WebSpher
e Application Server (WAS) 6.0.2.11 and WAS 6.1.0.2. The issue i
s consistent on both the IE 6.0.2900.2180 SP2 and Firefox 1.5 br
owsers.

Problem summary


    

  • Under certain circumstances in tables, IE does not report
positional information about tags correctly to JavaScript
reading the DOM.  This results in JSF components such as
date pickers, color pickers mis-behaving as the "popup"
windows get badly mispositioned.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • Some of the cases where IE misbehaves can be trapped and the
popup positioning can be forcibly corrected.  In other
cases, wrapping the tag (e.g., hx:inputText with a date
picker) in a fixed-width div will force IE to behave
correctly.
Fix delivered in Rational Software Architect V7004.
