Local fix

Problem summary

  • Cause:
If the migrated project is target to a WebSphere Application
Server v5.0, the project is going to contain Unknown server
container classpath entry to a WebSphere Application Server
V5.0 which is a cause to these compilation problems.
The IBM Rational Software Development Platform V7.0 no
longer supports WebSphere Application Server V5.0. As a
result, you need to upgrade your target runtime to a higher
version level of the server supported by the workbench, such
as WebSphere Application Server V5.1, V6.0 or V6.1. The
specification level of your project resources targeting a
WebSphere Application Server V5.0 should be compatible in
higher levels of the WebSphere Application Server. For
details on the WebSphere Application Server and the
specification level it supports, see the Specifications and
    API documentation
    (http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/wsbroker/redirect?vers
    ion=pix?product=was-base-dist?topic=rovr_specs) topic in the
    WebSphere Application Server Information Center.
If you plan to use J2EE 1.4 specifications in the migrated
project, consider specifying WebSphere Application Server
v6.0 or WebSphere Application Server v6.1 as the target
runtime setting. In the IBM Rational Software Development
Platform V7.0.x workbench, if you want to migrate your
project resources to a higher specification level, refer to
the Migrating the specification level of J2EE projects topic
available in the help contents (Help ? Help Contents).
    Solution:
    Backward compatibility restrictions
After migrating the project targeting a WebSphere
Application Server v5.0 from an IBM Rational Software
Development Platform V6.0.x to V7.0.x, the tools does not
support backward compatibility of the migrated project from
    V7.0.x to V6.0.x
    Migration steps
To migrate a J2EE project targeted to a WebSphere
Application Server v5.0 from an IBM Rational Software
Development Platform V6.0.x to V7.0.x, complete the
    following steps:
    1. Verify your workspace contains a WebSphere Application
Server V5.1 entry in the installed runtime environment by
    completing the following steps:
       a. In the IBM Rational Software Development Platform
    V7.0.x workspace, select Window ? Preferences ? Server ?
    Installed Runtimes.
       b. On the right-pane of the Installed Server Runtime
Environments page and under the Installed server runtimes
list, verify there is a WebSphere Application Server v5.1
entry. If there is no WebSphere Application Server v5.1
entry, see the Defining the installed server runtime
environments topic available in the help contents (Help ?
Help Contents) for adding an installed runtime environment.
    2. Select one of the following options to migrate your J2EE
    projects from V6.0.x to V7.0:
-Migrating projects imported using Project Interchange:
Export projects from V6.0.x and import into V7.0 using the
    Project Interchange feature.
-Migrating projects loaded from a SCM (source code
management) system: You can migrate projects from V6.0.x
that exist in a SCM system into V7.0 when they are loaded
    into a V7.0 workspace.
-Migrating a workspace on the same computer: When you
are ready to permanently migrate your V6.0 to a V7.0
workspace on the same computer, start the V7.0 product with
your old workspace. In this case, the settings in your
Installed Runtimes (Window ? Preferences ? Installed
Runtimes) are also preserved during the migration. See
Migrating workspaces and projects from V6.0.x topic
available in the help contents (Help ? Help Contents) for
    details.
    3. Open the workspace containing the migrated projects
    using the V7 workspace.
    4. Remove all classpath entries related to the WebSphere
Application Server V5.0 servers by completing the following
    steps.
       a. In the Project Explorer view, right-click on the
migrated project and select Properties. The Properties
    window for the project opens.
       b. In the left pane of the Properties window, select
    Java Build Path.
       c. In the Java? Build Path page, select the Libraries
    tab.
       d. Under the JARs and class folders on the build path
list, select the classpath entries JRE System Library
[WebSphere v5 JRE] and Unknown server container, and click
    the Remove button.
       e. Click OK.
    5. Add the project facets for the WebSphere Application
Server and specify the target server using the project
    properties window:
       a. In the Project Explorer view, right-click on the
migrated project and select Properties. The Properties
    window for the project opens.
       b. On the left pane of the Properties window, select
    Project Facets page.
       c. In the Project Facets page, select the Add/Remove
Project Facets button. The Add/Remove Project Facets window
    opens.
       d. In the Project Facets table, select the WebSphere
    projectType (Extended) or WebSphere projectType
(Co-existence) or both check boxes, where the projectType
changes depending on the type of project you are modifying,
for example Web, EJB or an enterprise application project.
       e. For each WebSphere facet selected, under the Version
column, select 6.1, 6.0 or 5.1 as the version level of the
WebSphere Application Server you want to target the project
    against.
       f. Select the Show Runtimes button.
       g. Under the Runtimes list, specify the matching higher
version level of the server as a target runtime setting for
your project , such as WebSphere Application Server V5.1,
V6.0, or V6.1. Click the Finish and then the OK button.
