Error description

  • When using the Web Services wizard provided with AST to generate
a java bean skeleton from a wsdl file, the wizard appears to
hang after clicking the next push button. Looking in the
.log file stored in the .metadata folder of the workspace, you
may see a NullPointerException (Null Pointer Exception) in
    WizardPageManager.performFinish
    class: WizardPageManager
    method: performFinish

Local fix

  • Problem can appear if the project was created without an
associated WAS Runtime. To resolve, do the following:
    1) From Project Explorer view, select the project containing
    the wsdl.
    2) Right click to open context menu and choose "Properties".
    3) On properties view, select "Project Facets".
    4) Click "Add/Remove Project Facets...".
    5) Click "<<Show Runtimes".
    5) Select a desired runtime. Note, you may only see the runtime
WebSphere Application Server v6.1 stub. If so, select it.
    6) Click "Finish".
    7) Click OK.
This should allow you to now generate the java bean skeleton.

A NullPointerException will occur when creating a java bean
skeleton web service from a WSDL file if the targeting project
    does not have a runtime.

Problem conclusion

  • An error dialog stating 'The project does not have a target
runtime' will now display if the project does not target a
    valid runtime.
