Error description

  • With the PARMCHECK compiler option and RULES(NOUNREFSOURCE) or
    RULES(NOUNREFALL), the compiler incorrectly issues warning:

    IGYSC2262-W   **RULES(NOUNREFSOURCE)** No references to
                  "---End_W-S---", nor any of its subordinates if
                  "---End_W-S---" is a group item, were found in the
                  program.

    The PARMCHECK option tells the compiler to generate an extra
    data item following the last item in WORKING-STORAGE. This
    "buffer" data item is then used at run time to check whether a
    called subprogram corrupted data beyond the end of
    WORKING-STORAGE. By design, this buffer data item is called
    "---End_W-S---" and is generated by the compiler. The compiler
    should never warn about this symbol.

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of Enterprise COBOL V6.2 *
    * compiling programs with both the PARMCHECK *
    *                 option and either RULES(NOUNREFSOURCE) or    *
    *                 RULES(NOUNREFALL) option specified.          *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Incorrect output: IGYSC2262-W           *
    *                      **RULES(NOUNREFSOURCE)** No references  *
    * to "---End_W-S---", nor any of its *
    *                      subordinates if "---End_W-S---" is a    *
    * group item, were found in the program. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    When the RULES(NOUNREFSOURCE) or RULES(NOUNREFALL)compiler
    option is specified along with the PARMCHECK option, the
    compiler is issuing message IGYSC2262-W for unreferenced symbol
    "---End_W-S---". This symbol is used internally by PARMCHECK
    to help the compiler detect memory overruns, and is not
    expected to be "referenced".

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler is changed to ignore the PARMCHECK symbol
    "---End_W-S---", during checking for unreferenced symbols.
