Error description

  • ENFM0047 and ENFM0077 fail with SQLCODE-904 or RC00C90096,
    CATENFM CONVERT PHASE 1 COMPLETED messages are issued but the
    V10 tablespaces DSNDB06.SYSRTSTS and DSNDB06.SYSSTR remain in
    the catalog. Customer continues into V11 NFM, but then CATMAINT
    does not allow CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP to run in V11 NFM.
    Customer has to run DSNTIJES to revert back to ENFM* to run it.
    The purpose of this apar is to allow CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEAN
    UP to run in NFM and clarify CATENFM CONVERT PHASE 1 COMPLETED
    message to indicate which tablespace is completed.

Local fix

  • Before running DSNTIJEN do the following:
    1.user can increase zparm NUMLKTS and NUMLKUT
    2.run MODIFY DELETE AGE(*) for the SYSSTR and SYSRTSTS with IC
      afterwards.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This APAR addresses two issues: *
    *                      1. Messages DSNU750I and DSNU752I       *
    * are generated in the DSNTIJEN job *
    * output multiple times with the same *
    * token "CATENFM CONVERT" though each *
    * of them is generated for processing *
    * different catalog and directory *
    *                         table spaces.                        *
    * 2. CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP is *
    * only allowed in ENFM. It should be *
    * allowed as long as the system has *
    * been converted to ENFM or NFM *
    *                         previously.                          *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply PTF when available *
    ****************************************************************
    The ENFM job DSNTIJEN uses CATENFM CONVERT INPUT <name> to
    convert the catalog and directory table spaces. The DSNTIJEN
    job also uses CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP for house keeping
    the catalog. Each invocation of CATENFM CONVERT puts a
    DSNU750I message out at the beginning and a DSNU752I
    message out at the end, for example:

    DSNU750I: CATENFM CONVERT PHASE 1 STARTED
    DSNU752I: CATENFM CONVERT PHASE 1 COMPLETED

    This can cause confusion because they were the same for all the
    different invocations.

    Another problem is that CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP can fail
    due to lock timeouts. Although users can manually re-run the
    CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP outside of the DSNTIJEN job,
    it was only allowed to be run while the system is in ENFM.
    Users that are already in NFM have to switch back to
    ENFM* if they ever need to run CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP
    again.

Problem conclusion

  • Db2 code has been updated to improve usability.

    Additional details have been added to the message
    token, for example:

    DSNU750I    171 18:07:09.13 DSNUECM0 -
          CATENFM CONVERT INPUT SYSUTILX PHASE 1 STARTED

    DSNU752I    171 18:07:09.13 DSNUECM0 -
          CATENFM CONVERT INPUT SYSUTILX PHASE 1 COMPLETED

    CATENFM CONVERT INPUT CLEANUP can now be run in ENFM and
    NFM.
