APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) v14.1.2, saving a COBOL
source will result in syntax errors due to incorrect
indentation, if in the COBOL Editor preference, Window >
Preferences > COBOL > Editor > Save Actions, "Format source code
> Apply only capitalization option" is enabled. Upon saving the
file, the source will be indented incorrectly resulting in
syntax errors.

Local fix

  • In Window > Preferences > COBOL > Editor > Save Actions dialog,
disable "Format source code" option or enable "Format source
code" with "Apply all formatting options".

Problem summary

  • The data division formatter code incorrectly checked preferences
 causing formats to happen when they should not.

Problem conclusion

  • Modified the data division formatter code to correct the
behavior of the formatter according to preferences.
