APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When starting ClearCase on a Solaris 11.3 (SPARC) host with
    multiple Non-Global Zones, the host may experience a system
    panic during ClearCase load of one or more Non-Global Zones.
    
    The error message in the system logs is "device number too big
    for fsid!"
    
    An immediately-subsequent reinstall and restart of ClearCase
    does not experience this issue.
    
    This issue has been reported as a one-time occurrence, and is
    under investigation.

    * On Solaris 11 systems, after mounting numerous ClearCase     *
    * VOBs, whether those mounts are in the global zone or any     *
    * non-global zones, a ClearCase VOB mount operation may fail   *
    * with the error message "mount: file table overflow".  In     *
    * some cases, a system crash may occur, and the error "device  *
    * number too big for fsid!" will be written to the system log. *

Problem conclusion

  • This is fixed in ClearCase 8.0.1.18 and 9.0.1.4
