  * USERS AFFECTED: All users of the IBM Automatic Binary        *
  *                 Optimizer (ABO) for z/OS, v1.3 Trial.        *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: This service contains updates to ABO    *
  *                      that allows it to optimize large        *
  *                      programs while consuming less CPU time  *
  *                      and memory resources. This APAR also    *
  *                      addresses the following issues found    *
  *                      in ABO for z/OS, v1.3:                  *
  *                                                              *
  *                      1) In some situations the input module  *
  *                      may be too complex for ABO to           *
  *                      optimize. In these case, ABO will       *
  *                      produce the message of the form         *
  *                      BOZ1455: unsupported feature "Program   *
  *                      Complexity ##" found, where "##" is a   *
  *                      number, internal to ABO, to identify a  *
  *                      specific situation.                     *
  *                                                              *
  *                      This APAR has improvements to ABO to    *
  *                      handle a variety of such cases.         *
  *                      Specifically, ABO can now handle        *
  *                      "Program Complexity" issues for the     *
  *                      following cases: 1, 4, 99, 73, 87,      *
  *                      154, and 161.                           *
  *                                                              *
  *                      2) ABO now produces detailed            *
  *                      information about the COBOL CSECT in    *
  *                      the listing transform output. This      *
  *                      information is decoded from the         *
  *                      "Signature Information Bytes", already  *
  *                      present in the listing transform.       *
  *                                                              *
  *                      3) ABO now supports the "!" character   *
  *                      in the BOPT directive, as a way of      *
  *                      specifying members to be excluded from  *
  *                      being optimized.                        *
  *                                                              *
  *                      4) ABO produces a new message,          *
  *                      BOZ4116, that contains extra            *
  *                      information from the Binder. These      *
  *                      messages can help identify issues that  *
  *                      prevent a module from being optimized.  *
  *                                                              *
  *                      5) When ABO processes a module and no   *
  *                      CSECT is eligible for optimization,     *
  *                      ABO produces the message "BOZ4101: No   *
  *                      applicable COBOL code section found".   *
  *                      The return code for this message has    *
  *                      been changed from 8 to 4.               *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply provided service                       *

  The ABO 1.3 Trial was modified to include all of the above items
  from the ABO 1.3 1Q2018 PTF.

• The ABO 1.3 Trial now includes these improvements from the ABO
  1.3 1Q2018 PTF.
