Error description

  • In Rational Developer for z Systems (RDz) v9.5.1.4, the
SPECIAL-NAMES paragraph that contains references to SYMBOLIC
variables are not accepted by the real-time syntax checking and
therefore, a syntax warning is issued. Here is an example of
    SYMBOLIC reference:

    SPECIAL-NAME.
        SYMBOLIC BACKSPACE 23
        ....
    WORKING-STORAGE SECTION.
    01 VAR-X PIC X(18) VALUE BACKSPACE.

The same issue exists in RDz 9.5.1.5.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • SYMBOLIC CHARACTERS were parsed for definitions, but when used
in the program they were still identified as user created
    variables instead of integer literals.
