APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • ZONEDATA(NOPFD) and ZONEDATA(MIG) effects are expanded to MOVE
statements, comparisons, and computations for USAGE DISPLAY or
PACKED-DECIMAL data items that could contain invalid data
(digits, sign code, or zone bits), with actions more compatible
    with earlier compilers.

    ****************************************************************
The compiler was generating an instruction that forced a
subsequent compare to be a numeric compare, despite
ZONEDATA(NOPFD) or ZONEDATA(MIG) being specified, while
Enterprise COBOL V4.2 generated an alphanumeric compare. When
used with invalid data, the numeric compare caused a runtime
abend, while the alphanumeric compare used by V4.2 did not.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The compiler was fixed to generate an alphanumeric compare when
comparing a PACKED-DECIMAL and USAGE DISPLAY data item when
compiling with ZONEDATA(NOPFD) or ZONEDATA(MIG). Customers
whose programs may use invalid USAGE DISPLAY and PACKED-DECIMAL
data can compile with ZONEDATA(NOPFD) or ZONEDATA(MIG), causing
the compiler to avoid generating the instruction that causes
the runtime abend in this scenario. Customers with valid data
can use ZONEDATA(PFD) in order to get the best performance.
