  *                 receiver is used in a subsequent             *

  *                 modification.                                *

  *                      compiler may generate code that uses    *
  *                      the intermediate negative result        *
  *                      instead of the correct positive result. *

  The compiler was generating code that computed a negative
  result in a register, forced the result to positive when
  storing from the register to the receiver, and then used the
  value in a register in a subsequent computation, table access,
  or reference modification.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was fixed to force the contents of the register to
  be positive before its subsequent use.
