Error description

  • Using ClearQuest 8.0.1.11, when open ClearQuest in Window
Client, the Client started to hang / frozen, but we were able to
access ClearQuest in Web Client without any issue.

For example: Analyzing, the length of the mentioned short string
field was 252 (if we count the two "ENTER/LINES") and that was
the reason it made the client hang. When we exclude the enter
key space (two "ENTER/LINES") it was just 250.

So we came to a conclusion that, Web Client excludes enter key
space (ENTER/LINE) and calculate the length of the content (250
characters) whereas Window Client includes the enter key space
(ENTER/LINE) into account & calculate the length of the field
    content (252 characters).

    Steps to reproduce the issue:

    1- Check out your schema.

2- Create a field with SHORT_STRING type and configure this
field to have 250 as the Maximum Length.

3- Add this field to the form (Submit and Base forms) using for
example a Text Box form control.

4- Adjust the Text Box form control to have a form control where
you can have enough space to add some lines on it.

5- Check in your schema and upgrade the database.

    6- Login to ClearQuest Web

7- Submit a new record and in the short string field that you
have created with 250 as the Maximum Length (item 2 above), add
    the following text:

    =====

Issue observed in CQV8.0.1 Build 8.0.0.12.00_2014
    Note:
For CQV8.0.1 also the Current Level values are not displayed for
abcde abcde, abcde abcdefghi, abcde and Transfag roll in
    ABC.(ABC ticket (Incident: 0000000 (raised on Oct 28, 2016
    3:49:35 PM))

    =====

Note: The Text above has 252 characters length if we count the
two "ENTER" (lines). But, it is 250 characters length if we
don't count the two "ENTER" (lines). ClearQuest Web accepts this
text size without any problem (no error or warning). This is a
different behavior from the ClearQuest Windows client and the
    ClearQuest Eclipse client.

8- Once you save the record on ClearQuest Web (with those 2
"ENTER") and you open the ClearQuest Windows client, do a find
record or run a query to search for the record you have
submitted on item 7 above, and simply click over the Tab where
you have the short string field with 250 as the Maximum Length,
the ClearQuest Windows client hang/frozen, to recover you need
to kill the ClearQuest Windows client task in the Task Manager.

Note: If using the ClearQuest Eclipse client, and working with
that record with more characters than the limit specified in the
short string field, it doesn't hang/frozen but, it will complain
about the size limit exceeded for that field. The ClearQuest
Eclipse client is working correctly but, it is necessary to fix
the wrong size introduced by the ClearQuest Web client when
    changing/modifying that short string field.

So we have an issue here where the ClearQuest Web client is
accepting more characters than the value specified for the
field. This causes confusion and trouble with ClearQuest Eclipse
client but, the main concern is that this situation is causing
the ClearQuest Windows client to hang/frozen.

    Scenario of this Behavior:

    1) The DB is allowing 250+2 characters to be in the DB, which is
larger than then field length defined for short string of this
    field.
    2) Web client allows it to be entered with the larger length,
    and retrieved.
    3) Windows client hangs (likely because it's receiving more data
    than it's expecting).
    4) If working with the specific short string field, the Eclipse
client will complain about the field size and request to fix it.

    >> ClearQuest Web is working in a different manner than the
Windows Client & Windows Eclipse in regarding to the field size.
The ClearQuest Web client is not counting the "ENTER" (lines)
but, the other ClearQuest clients are counting the "ENTER"
    (lines).

It was verified that this behavior affects ClearQuest 8.0.1.10,
    8.0.1.11 and 9.0.0.2.

  • A fix is available 9.0.1.11, 9.0.2.3 and 9.1.0.0
ClearQuest Windows client no longer crashes when a user enters a
value in a SHORT_STRING multi-line field that exceeds the
maximum length restriction. A proper error message is displayed
    now.
