PI70306: S0C4 IN IGZXSM1 AT OFFSET X'76' AFTER AN UNSUCCESSFUL SORT

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• This is for a problem where customers have a failed SORT which
  later leads to an S0C4 ABEND, because the SORT return code is
  not handled properly in v5.1 and above.  It works fine for
  customers running v4.2.

  *                      package, the compiler may not           *
  *                      recognize the failure and will try to   *
  *                      continue processing which may result    *
  *                      in an S0C4 ABEND.                       *

  The compiler will only recognize a return code of 16 as failure
  when returning from a call to an external SORT package. There
  are other return codes, greater than 16, that also indicate a
  failure in the SORT routine.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was modified to recognize any SORT return code
  greater than or equal to 16, as a failure condition.
