Error description

  • In the general case, it is possible for some bundle parts to be
ENABLED, but for the whole bundle to be DISABLED. The Bundle
state is "reflective". That means it is an indication of "how
safe" it is to use this bundle.
The Bundle will only be reported as ENABLED when all of its
bundle parts and imports are ENABLED.
In this specific instance, following a DFHRL0119, the bundle
parts should not have been installed, much less enabled.
At CICS TS V4.2, bundle parts were not installed following
message DFHRL0119. That was the intended behaviour, and the
current behaviour appears to be a regression. This APAR will
fix that and restore the V4.2 behaviour, which means
that following a DFHRL0119 the bundle parts would not be
    installed.
If you were to DISABLE the bundle at this point (thereby
DISABLING the bundle parts), and attempt to ENABLE it again,
CICS would fail the attempt with:
DFHRL0115 W date time applid CEMT The attempt to enable the
BUNDLENAME bundle failed because one or more of its defined
resources are in an UNUSABLE state.

Local fix

  • Disable, Discard, and install the bundle again.

CICS is performing a restart (WARM or EMERGENCY) and is
recovering bundles from the catalog. CICS performs consistency
checking to ensure that the bundle has not been updated since
the previous CICS job. When a bundle is found to have been
updated relative to the recovered catalog record, CICS will
issue message DFHRL0119 and fail the installation of the bundle.
No bundle parts should be installed in this case, but bundle
parts are installed and enabled anyway.
The bundle state will be shown as DISABLED, but internally this
bundle is in a FAILED state and can never be enabled.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHRLDM has been updated so when a bundle is found to have been
updated, the consistency check fails, DFHRL0119 is issued, and
no bundle parts are installed for that bundle.
