PI69254: COBOL S0C1 INSPECT TALLYING ON SRK INSTRUCTION WITH ARCH(8) AFTER UI39594

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A COBOL program that has an INSPECT TALLYING verb can generate
  an SRK assembler instruction when compiling with option
  ARCH(8). An s0c1 will occur if running on architecture that
  does not support distinct-operands facility - such as z10.
  

Local fix

• Run on z196 or higher architecture; restore UI39594

  While generating code for an inlined INSPECT statement, the
  compiler did not check the ARCH level to verify that it was
  permitted to generate an SRK instruction.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was modified to check the ARCH level before
  generating an SRK instruction, and to generate an LR/SR
  sequence if SRK is not available.
