    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Storage overlay is caused by RUNSTATS TABLESPACE INDEX PART *
    * with HISTOGRAM option when records with QUANTILENO = -1 *
    * exist in SYSIBM.SYSCOLDISTSTATS.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply corrective PTF when available. *
    ****************************************************************
    Storage overlay occurred when a part level RUNSTATS TABLESPACE
    INDEX with HISTOGRAM option was aggregating the part level
    histogram statistics to index space level, but records with
    QUANTILENO = -1 was read from the catalog table
    SYSIBM.SYSCOLDISTSTATS.

    The same problem can happen when records with QUANTILENO = -1
    was read from SYSIBM.SYSKEYTGTDISTSTATS for extended index, and
    for part level RUNSTATS INDEX, as well as part level LOAD, REORG
    or REBUILD INDEX utility with inline statistics.
    The problem can also happen for data-partitioned secondary index
    (DPSI) or COLGROUP HISTOGRAM.

Problem conclusion

  • RUNSTATS code has been modified to avoid this storage overlay.
    However inaccurate histogram statistics could be aggregated to
    index space level by part level RUNSTATS, because the existing
    rows with QUANTILENO = -1 in SYSCOLDISTSTATS or
    SYSKEYTGTDISTSTATS will be ignored and there might be missing
    statistics from affected partitions.

    Users are recommended to run a table space or index space level
    RUNSTATS to refresh the part level statistics.
