Error description

  • REORG got 04E-00E40346 due to abend B37-04 in the INLINE COPY
REORG was run to convert the segmented tablespace into UTS.
The problem was caused by DB2 did not get NPAGES from RTS due
to this conversion from segmented TS to UTS. DB2 used the
zero value to calculate the space allocation and only 1 cylinder
was allocated as the primary quantity for the inline
copy dataset. This caused the B37 in the inline copy dataset.

Local fix

  • Customer can bypass the problem by specifying SPACE with
proper primary space in the COPY template dataset definition.

    ****************************************************************
    (1) User ran an online REORG TABLESPACE utility to materialize a
pending definition change to convert a segmented table space to
a PBG with part-level inline copy. The REORG job abended with
ABENDB37 for the inline copy data set when the
SPACE(primary, secondary) parameter is not specified on the
template statement for the copy data set.

This problem occurred because the REORG did not get the
correct statistics for table space conversion cases.

    (2) User ran a REORG TABLESPACE utility against a PBG table
space with part-level inline copy but without specifying the
SPACE parameter on the template statement for the copy data set.
Then REORG utility allocated a copy data set with a very small
primary and secondary space quantity for one of the non-last
partitions, as RTS information indicated that it was almost
empty. During the reload phase, the data from the subsequent
partitions was pushed up and consolidated into this part, which
caused the copy data set to run out of the maximum extents and
    abending with B37.

    (3) User ran a REORG TABLESPACE utility against a PBG table
space with part-level inline copy but without specifying the
SPACE parameter on the template statement for the copy data
set. There were very few data pages in the table space. The
REORG utility allocated a copy data set for the first partition
with a small primary space quantity but a very high secondary
space quantity, which caused the REORG to fail with an ABENDE37
when extending the copy data set, as there was not enough space
    to extend.

    (4) User ran a REORG TABLESPACE utility against a PBG table
space with part-level inline copy. User specified MAXPRIME /
PCTPRIME but without specifying SPACE parameter on the template
statement for the copy data set. Then REORG utility allocated a
copy data set with a very small primary and secondary space
quantity for the first partition, even though there was
much data in it, which caused the copy data set to run out of
the maximum extents and abending with 837.

Problem conclusion

  • REORG code has been modified to better utilize the RTS
information when converting from a simple / segmented table
space to a PBG table space.

REORG code has also been modified to better estimate the
primary and secondary space for the part level inline copy data
    sets for PBG table space.
