    ****************************************************************
During the DB2 11 ENFM process three catalog table spaces are
converted and their tables are moved into individual PBG
table spaces: SYSSTR, SYSCOPY, and SYSRTSTS. The original three
table spaces are then dropped at the end of their ENFM
    processing steps.

The DSNDB06 object descriptors for these three table spaces are
marked invalid during the DROP process but they will be kept
in memory until their use count goes down to zero. An in-process
utility will still have pointers to these invalidated object
descriptors (OBD). Since various OBD fields are zeroed out
during DROP processing it is possible for these in-process
utilities to come across a zeroed pointer for one of these three
dropped catalog table spaces. This is what happened in the
reported case and the COPY utility abended:

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been changed so that catalog objects dropped during
an ENFM process are properly handled. While the reported case
involved the COPY utility, the code fix ensures that all DB2
utilities will properly handle these same situations.
