Error description
When CICS TS installs a pipeline for TN3270 users, the region hangs. If the transaction is purged, a CEMT display shows that the pipeline is in "Being Enabled' status. Looking at the SYSTRACE of a dump gathered at the time of the error reveals a loop that occurs in a range of addresses between offsets x'6674' and x'6978' in DFHPIPL. The stack for the transaction shows that CICS is performing function CREATE_PROVIDER_PIPELINE. Examination of the pipeline configuration shows that there is a transport element with a single null value for the default_transport_handler_list, although the xml contains valid matched start and end tags. Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): KIXREVEAA
Local fix
Correct the transport element to contain a valid non-null default_transport_handler_list, or remove it entirely if there is a valid service element.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Loop in DFHPIPL when installing a * * PIPELINE. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** A PIPELINE configuration XML file contained the following valid <transport> element: . <default_transport_handler_list/> . This is empty element. When the pipeline was installed, transaction CPIR ( Pipeline Resolution transaction ) was invoked and this drove DFHPIPL which performed XML validation. It detected the element as being empty but did not index to the next element. Instead it looped, repeatedly checking the same element. . The same behaviour may also occur for the following empty ( but valid ) <transport> XML elements: . <default_http_transport_handler_list/> <default_mq_transport_handler_list/> . Keywords: msgDFHPI0720 PI0720
Problem conclusion
DFHPIPL has been modified to correctly process the aforementioned empty <transport> XML elements. . In addition, this APAR also suppresses a DFHPI0720 configuration error message when installing a config file containing a <named_transport_entry> that does not have a <handler> element.
