PI53364: DELAYS EXECUTING CALLS IN CLEARCASE DUE TO VOBRPC_SERVER START UP

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When a command is run from within a IBM Rational ClearCase
  dynamic view context and there are no vobrpc_server processes
  active then it will start one vobrpc_server process per VOB.
  This start up time and the time it takes the ClearCase client to
  contact it and gather information adds an extra overhead in
  transfer time of even non-ClearCase command outputs to the
  client.
  It is noted that the start up of a VOBrpc_server, the client
  contacting that server and the retrieval of information can take
  about 50ms per process.
  NOTE: the vobrpc_server processes are short lived so they
  require restarting after two minutes with no access
  
  WORKAROUND:
  Run a 'ls -l' every two minutes from a view context to keep the
  vobrpc_servers alive.
