Error description

• With Enterprise COBOL V5.2 compiled program that uses a large
  number of SORT keys, an exception may occur during the SORT
  process. Symptom could be u0016 abend or s0c2. Output may also
  show error message ICE007A P SYNTAX ERROR

  The COBOL compiler was incorrectly processing various internal,
  SORT-related strings using a cache, even when the strings were
  too large for the cache. This sometimes caused the string to
  become corrupted.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was updated to ensure that large, sort-related
  strings are not cached inappropriately and this solves the SORT
  ABEND problem.
