  The COBOL compiler was trying to add an intrinsic function name,
  while generating code for a runtime message, to an internal
  table when there was no function name.  The function name and
  the length of the name were random values when this occurs.
  Normally this would save some random bytes in the table but
  under very specific circumstances this would result in the
  compiler overwriting memory and eventually a compiler ABEND.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was changed to not try to include an intrinsic
  function name in the XML PARSE runtime message.
