Error description

    but if a container name longer than 16 characters is used no
    error is returned.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of CICS TG channels and *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Unexpected behaviour of *
    *                      ECIChannelRecord functions.             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    Validity checking on the ECIChannelRecord.put function did not
    identify invalid container names, nor unrecognised data object
    types. No errors were reported to the client program, but the
    request was not sent to CICS.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS TG has been corrected to throw an IllegalArgumentException
    when the container name is invalid, an
    UnsupportedOperationException when the data object supplied is
    not of a recognised type, and a NullPointerException when the
    container name is null.
    CICS TG has also been changed so that when a specified
    container name already exists in the channel a put call will
    update the contents with the new data and return the original
    data object. CICS TG will also return null when a new container
    is being created. The remove method has been changed to return
    the container data rather than a com.ibm.ctg.client.Container
    object, when removing the container from the channel.
