Error description
When the target platform is changed from Win phone 8.0 to Win phone 8.1 synchronous ajax calls fail to work.
Local fix
An option is to replace the out of the box library 1.9.1 sipped with the product with jQuery 2.0. This can resolve the issue. ie, both synchronous and asynchronous loading works.
