PI40861: IGYCB7300-W NOT ISSUED WHEN CODE IS ELIMINATED USING COBOL VERSION 5 COMPILER (PART 2)

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Under COBOL V5.1, code dropped by the COBOL compiler is not
  flagged via IGYCB7300-W as it was in previous releases.
  
  The symtoms of this APAR (missing IGYCB7300-W message) is the
  same symptom described in APAR PI25796, but the root cause can
  vary from APAR PI25796.
  
  This APAR addresses a secondary root cause of the missing
  IGYCB7300-W messages, that can manifest itself under
  OPT(0/1/2).
  
  Note that APAR PI25796 only occurs at OPT(1/2).

  The Enterprise COBOL 5.2 compiler was not reporting unreachable
  code in some cases because it was tracking the removal of
  unreachable code at a more coarse level than line-by-line.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was fixed to track unreachable code on a
  line-by-line basis, enabling the compiler to report cases it
  previously did not.
