The Rational Developer for System z COBOL and LPEX editor's real time syntax checker does not properly flag a missing parenthesis in a PIC clause unless a syntax check is performed. Example code that should be flagged: 01 VAR PIC X(9. or 01 WS-STATUS-I1 PIC X(2 VALUE SPACES.

Real Time Syntax Check (RTSC) feature in RDz COBOL and LPEX Editors needs to be enhanced to add the validation code on PICTURE clause to check missing parenthesis.
