PI38571: IGYSI5301-U CEEPIPI RC=28 FAILURE WHEN COMPILING WITH MESSAGE EXIT SIGYSAMP(MSGEXIT)

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Due to changes in the v5 compiler architecture, the compiler
  exits are now invoked via CEEPIPI call_sub, rather than relying
  on the RTEREUS run-time option for run-time performance.
  
  The shipped SIGYSAMP(MSGEXIT) is stale and still includes
  instructions for setting up RTEREUS, and a STOP RUN which is
  invalid in the CEEPIPI call_sub environment.
  
  Running the sample code as is will produce a
  
  IGYSI5301-U  The compilation failed due to an internal
               error calling a compiler user exit.
               CEEPIPI returned error code   28.
  

Local fix

• Change the STOP RUN to GOBACK; do not link in CEEUOPT with
  RTEREUS.

  STOP RUN was used in the message exit code, but STOP RUN
  can no longer be used in a message exit, starting with
  Enterprise COBOL V5.1.  GOBACK must be used instead.
  

Problem conclusion

• STOP RUN was used instead of GOBACK in the message exit program
  but STOP RUN is no longer supported in message exits starting
  with Enterprise COBOL V5.1.
