Error description
Rational Developer for System z (RDz v9.1.1) does not find copybooks or include files. This happens when using a connection name that includes a forward or backward slash character ("/" or "\"). E.g. if the connection name is SLASH1/PART2 or SLASH1\PART2 it is not marked as an error in RDz when defining a new connection in the remote systems viewer. The problem is noted when RDz caches the COBOL copybooks or include files in the <WorkspacesPath>\RemoteSystemsTempFiles\FttRemoteTempFiles\SLASH 1\PART2 directory. The reason is that an extra level in the directory structure is created (....\PART2). The editor is unable to find the cached copybooks in <WorkspacePath>\RemoteSystemsTempFiles\FttRemoteTempFiles\SLASH1 \PART2\USER1\USER1.AUTOMART.COPYBOOK This problem can be observed from RDz versions 8.x to 9.1.1
Local fix
Avoid using a forward ("/") or backward ("\") slash character when naming a new connection in the remote systems viewer.
Problem summary
The RSE connection name validator does not check for invalid characters like the slash character. As a result, the cached remote files associated with the connection can not be properly handled since RSE becomes confused by the temp file path (with the inclusion of a slash in the path). RSE should add checks to ensure this (and other problemmatic characters) are detected and an error message is shown. This APAR is being closed FIN with concurrence from the submitting customer. This means that a fix to this APAR is expected to be delivered from IBM in a release which is being developed at the time that the APAR was closed. The latest release of the product to exit development at the time this APAR was closed was: Rational Developer for z Systems V9.5.
