PI32551: INTERMITTENT KERNEL PANIC ON RHEL WHEN RUNNING CLEARTOOL WITHIN A BUILD.

Error description

  • While performing a build on RedHat Enterprise Linux and IBM
    Rational ClearCase (versions 8.0.0.9 or 8.0.1.2 and later) the
    kernel will intermittently panic and the machine reboots.
    The panic is seen in the mvfs xdr routine:

    This occurs in rare conditions where we hit a race condition
    while performing a lookup on a history mode name.

Problem conclusion

  • This defect is fixed in ClearCase 8.0.0.14 and 8.0.1.7.
