APAR status

Error description

  • Attempts to connect to Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC)
11g failed when using the following connection string:

jdbc:oracle:thin:@server:port:service

where service is the service name, with error:

ORA-12505, TNS:listener does not currently know of SID given in
connect descriptor

Attempts to connect were successful when using:

jdbc:oracle:thin:@(DESCRIPTION=(LOAD_BALANCE=on)(ADDRESS=(PROTOC
OL=TCP)(HOST=

server1)(PORT=port1))(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=server2)(PORT=
port2))(
              CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=service)))

The Knowledge center should document any special requirements
regarding the connection string for the case of Oracle Real
Application Clusters (RAC) .

Local fix

  • Use the information in this APAR to produce a correct connection
string.
