Error description
One way we can improve ILE is to make the hover text for a read-only field be more informative. It needs to indicate exactly why the field is not editable so the user knows whether it can be fixed by changing the query. There are at least these three cases that need to be distinguished: 1. field is not on the form - requires schema change to fix this 2. field is not in the same record - the dotted fieldpath case (Severity.Name should be just Severity) 3. field appears more than once in the result set For case 3, the field will be editable in only one of the columns. Unfortunately, it seems to be the right-most field, which might be off-screen for a wide result set. It would be better if it used the first, left-most column. When I tried this case, I found that the other columns became blank, which I consider to be a bug. In 8.0.1.04, the hover text shown for a read-only column that uses a dotted field path (such as Severity.Name) is wrong. It says inline editing is not supported for this field type. This message is not really correct. It should instead say it couldn't find a form control for the field.
