APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Variable block file with minimum length of 813 bytes and maximum
length 1968 gets delete defined with different attributes,
when the file is open in CICS and a batch program tries to open
    it in OUTPUT mode.

Local fix

  • N/A

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED:
Clients with SFS files being accessed concurrently via COBOL
programs and TxSeries transactions may be affected by this
    issue.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Opening a SFS file for OUTPUT does a delete/create instead of
empty. This caused increased CPU and elapsed time there by
enlarging a window for errors in concurrent execution.
The centre of the issue is concurrent execution (COBOL batch and
CICS ONLINE), and timing window wherein a COBOL OPEN OUTPUT does
a DELETE and then a CREATE.
A CICS transaction can catch us between the DELETE and CREATE
    and fail.

Problem conclusion

  • SFS files opened for OUTPUT will now empty the file instead of
    doing a delete/create.
