Error description
Rational Developer for System z suffers from performance degradation when running on zPD&T after the z/OS server upgraded from RDz 8.5.1 to RDz 9.0.1. This happens with test usage scenario's that generates a lot of request of LISTDS, ALLOCATE, compile, and file update for RDz server. The server receives the same type of requests from multiple users in very close timing. In the traces can be observed that the trace entries for multiple requests appear mixed in RDz 9.0.1. TSO command execution takes long time but does not indicate that the TSO command server acts significant different between these two versions. This can result in CRRZI0379E Time out, no response from the server
Local fix
Problem summary
The throughput of RDz 9.0.1 server is slower than that of RDz 8.5.1, when running on zPD&T with the default server configuration.
Problem conclusion
Just to be as the RDz 8.5.1 server, disabling the sprit function on RDz 9.0.1 or later server should be enough. On the other hand, the spirit function should reduce the risk for server to fall into 'out of memory error' condition. Keeping the spirit function enabled, SPIRIT_INTERVAL_TIME and SPIRIT_EXPIRY_TIME parameters may be set to large values not to let the spirit function logic to work frequently. SPIRIT_INTERVAL_TIME indicates the time in seconds to wait before attempting to spirit elements on the queue to be spirited while SPIRIT_EXPIRY_TIME indicates how long to wait after queuing an element for spiriting before following through. The appropriate values should depend on how server is used. The problem listed in this APAR has been resolved with IBM Rational Developer for System z V9.0.1.4 Fix Pack which is available from the Recommended Fixes support download page: http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=2294&uid=swg27006335
