• IGYDG5273-U   Buffer size was too small for Wcode workfile was
  received when compiling program under COBOL Version 5.

  *                      because it exceeded data management     *

  The compiler was writing a table for EXTERNAL data items in a
  single WRITE, but when there were too many, data management
  could not manage records of that size, so the compiler aborted.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was changed to write out the EXTERNAL symbol table
  in multiple writes using the buffer size specified in the
  BUFSIZE compiler option.
