Error description

  • Under certain conditions, the IBM Rational ClearCase
    MultiVersion File System (MVFS) may not correctly set the
    time/date stamp or file size for a newly created view private
    file or newly checked out file. Under these undetermined
    conditions, the file will have a size of 0 bytes and a time
    stamp of midnight, January 1st, 1970 GMT (Unix 'epoch' time).

Local fix

  • Use of the Unix "touch" command on impacted files will reset the
    time/date stamp to the current value, and the file size will
    also be correctly updated.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * If a Remote Procedure Call to the view server fails during a *
    * get attributes operation, the file attributes for a file *
    * could be reset so the length would be set to 0 and the *
    * creation, access and modification times would be set to *
    * January 1, 1970.                                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * The customer should upgrade to IBM Rational ClearCase *
    * versions 8.0.0.11 or 8.0.1.04 or later.                      *
    ****************************************************************

Problem conclusion

  • IBM Rational ClearCase versions 8.0.0.11 and 8.0.1.04 and later
    will no longer incorrectly reset the file attributes if there is
    a failure in a Remote Procedure Call.
