Error description
Abstract: After adding or changing an IHS (IBM HTTP Server) or IIS (Microsoft) web server via the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) admin console in Rational Application Developer (RAD), it does not show after restarting WAS or re-publishing to WAS in RAD. This is not a problem outside of RAD. Error_description: The RAD v7x/8x/9x Help and Info Center do not document Server tools do not support HTTP web servers with WebSphere Application Server. A section/paragraph similar to what was put in for no support of Network Deployment/ND servers in RAD Info Centers - Testing and publishing on your server: ...Federated (managed)... RAD 75: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v7r5/index.jsp? topic=org.eclipse.wst.server.ui.astrxd.doc.user/topics/cwover.ht ml RAD 80: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v8/index.jsp?topic=%2F com.ibm.servertools.doc%2Ftopics%2Fcwover.html RAD 85: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v8r5/index.jsp?topic=% 2Fcom.ibm.servertools.doc%2Ftopics%2Fcwover.html RAD 90: http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/radhelp/v9/index.jsp?topic=%2F com.ibm.servertools.doc%2Ftopics%2Fcwover.html , is needed to officially indicate no support for 'web server(s)' with Server tools. This would help in planning for the use of RAD with WAS and web servers. There is an existing technote: - Embedded HTTP Server in the WebSphere Test Environment Servers and support for the IBM HTTP Server http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21064208 , that says most of this. Any web server such as IIS or IHS or Apache is not officially supported with the WAS Test Environment servers provided with RAD with server tools. In RAD, WAS with IHS (IBM HTTP Server) or IIS (Microsoft) web servers may work the majority of the time, but there are corner cases that may have problems and only sometimes. For example: 1. The Rational Application Developer (RAD) server tools will not support any synchronization of changes between the two on publish, as they only publish to the embedded WebSphere Application Server (WAS). Sometimes there are problems with IHS IIS to redirect successfully to the dynamic web application. 2. Changes in the WAS admin console to the Web server plug-in configuration, which forwards HTTP requests from the Web server to WAS, may not be synchronized on publish or re-start of WAS or publishing to WAS in RAD. The WAS admin console may not show the installed IIS or IHS web server after restarting WAS in RAD. 3. The above scenarios are potentially more problematic if the WAS servers or web servers are remote. Also, the WAS server profile is not supported to be run as a service with RAD server tools. Notes: - RAD does not ship the IBM IHS web server with any WAS server. - The WAS v6x/7x/8x server in RAD is assumed to have any web plug-in correctly added and configured using the admin console. WAS Support should be engaged to assist with configuration WORKAROUND: There is no known workaround at this time. In RAD, WAS with IIS or IHS web servers may work the majority of the time, but there are corner cases that may have problems.
