Problem summary

• ****************************************************************
  * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL V6.2 who compile   *
  *                 with SSRANGE compiler option and have a      *
  *                 source program with CALL sub USING with a    *
  *                 USING parameter that contains an UNBOUNDED   *
  *                 table that is reference modified.            *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The program gets an incorrect run time  *
  *                      error for a reference modification      *
  *                      start value that is beyond the end of   *
  *                      the table, even though the reference    *
  *                      modification start value is actually    *
  *                      perfectly OK.                           *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF.                      *

  The compiler is not supposed to be checking reference
  modification of a variable-length table on a CALL statement,
  because it would force all parms to be initialized before the
  CALL.   Parameters could be input only (set by the called
  program).  The incorrect message was because this checking was
  NOT disabled and there was no length of the unbounded table to
  check against without being able to call the calc routines that
  figure out the length and require the ODO object be set before
  the CALL.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler was changed to not do SSRANGE checking for
  UNBOUNDED tables on CALL sub USING phrases.  This is consistent
  with other parameters that are variable length.
