Error description

  • REPLACING (of COPY statement) does not work on EXEC SQL text

Local fix

  • Add spaces on either side of the "." in the pseudo-text:

    :TITXHT<space>.<space>COR-GL-DATE== BY ==NULL=

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of Enterprise COBOL 6.3 compiling *
    * programs with the SQL option in effect and *
    *                 the program contains a COPY...REPLACING or   *
    * REPLACE statement where the search string *
    * specified in pseudo text is a reference to *
    *                 a fully-qualified SQL host variable name     *
    *                 containing a period character.               *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: COPY...REPLACING and REPLACE statements *
    * fail to match the host variable name *
    * properly and substitutions are not *
    *                      performed as expected.                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    The library phase tokenizer was inadvertently breaking the SQL
    host variable name containing a period (which is not a legal
    COBOL identifier) into multiple parts, which confused the
    COPY...REPLACING and REPLACE statement matching algorithms.

Problem conclusion

  • The compiler was updated so that the library phase tokenizer
    treats the fully-qualified SQL host variable name as one string
    of text for matching purposes.
