Error description

  • Routing of CICS work to other data sharing members unnecessarily
    on SQLCODE -904 can cause a flood of work to other data sharing
    members.
    This is a forward fit of PI77853 to Db2 12 for z/OS.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Upon a resource unavailable condition                        *
    * (an SQLCODE -904) for an SQL request *
    * from a CICS transaction, Db2 invokes                         *
    * z/OS Workload Balance Manager to route *
    * the subsequent work to another data *
    * sharing member.                                              *
    * Such routing is unnecessary and can *
    * cause flooding of works to other *
    * members in the data sharing group. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply corrective PTF when available *
    ****************************************************************
    When an SQL request from a CICS connection results in a
    resource unavailable condition (an SQLCODE -904), Db2 also
    invokes a WLM service to route further work to other members in
    the data sharing group. Such routing may not be necessary since
    there is no guarantee the unavailable condition will be
    resolved when the SQL request is run on another member. On the
    other hand, that routing may cause flooding of work to other
    members and result in group-wide failure.

Problem conclusion

  • Db2 has been changed to no longer route CICS works to another
    data sharing member on a resource unavailable condition on
    an SQL request.
