Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) v14.2, an expanded COBOL
source (Source > Show Expanded Source) may display syntax errors
if it contains "replacing" statements that after the source
expansion would continue beyond column 72.

Here are examples for the statements containing replacing
phrase:


COPY XXX REPLACING ZERO BY 0000.       <- same length

COPY XXX REPLACING PIC BY PICTURE.     <- might cause expansion
beyond column 72

Problem summary


    

  • Replacing statements in programs that would go beyond column 72
cause errros in the COBOL and PL/I editor. When you open
expanded  source, there were problems with the file.
