Error description
A test program has two UTF-8 data items within it. When using the PIC U notation, the optional USAGE UTF-8 keyword causes the compiler to throw an unexpected GYDS1551-E error referencing a "group" that does not seem to exist. Compiles without Error: 000018 01 U1 PIC U(10). <=== No error 000019 *01 U1 PIC U(10) USAGE UTF-8. 000020 01 U2 PIC U BYTE-LENGTH 40 USAGE UTF-8. Compiles with Error: 000018 *01 U1 PIC U(10). 000019 01 U1 PIC U(10) USAGE UTF-8. <=== Error is generated simply by adding "USAGE UTF-8". 000020 01 U2 PIC U BYTE-LENGTH 40 USAGE UTF-8. ==000020==> IGYDS1551-E A data item in a UTF-8 group was defined without the "BYTE-LENGTH" phrase of the PICTURE clause. The "BYTE-LENGTH" phrase was assumed.
Local fix
Remove optional "USAGE UTF-8" clause for PIC U data item.
Problem summary

The "BYTE-LENGTH" phrase was * * assumed. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the provided PTF. * **************************************************************** The compiler was confusing the GROUP-USAGE UTF-8 clause with the USAGE UTF-8 clause in the definition of fixed character-length UTF-8 data items.
Problem conclusion
The compiler was updated to address the confusion between the GROUP-USAGE UTF-8 clause and the USAGE UTF-8 clause for fixed character-length UTF-8 data items.
