Error description

  • In IBM Developer for z Systems (IDz) v14.1.7, in a PL/I member,
    an invalid syntax error is issued when the symbol '!' is used
    to represent the NOT operator in the EXEC SQL statement. Here is
    a sample program:

    test: proc() options(main);

    EXEC SQL SELECT * FROM CITY
           WHERE AVG_TEMP != 20;

    end test;

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Not recognizing '!=' in PL1 due to OR('!') overwriting the type.

Problem conclusion

  • We no longer overwrite the type inside of SQL statements.
