Error description

  • Currently autobind failure issues SQLCODE -904 reason code
    RC00E30305 for the failing package. But the user cannot
    easily find out which package is in error in order to
    issue REBIND on that package.
    This APAR is to issue console message DSNT500I at an autobind
    failure which will allow the user to quickly identify the
    problem package.

    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * All Db2 12 for z/OS users who                                *
    * receive SQLCODE -904 reason code                             *
    * RC00E30305 and resource type 00000801                        *
    * at a package execution                                       *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * Currently if Db2 automatically rebinds                       *
    * (autobind) a package and the autobind *
    * fails, the package receives SQLCODE *
    * -904 reason code 00E30305 and resource                       *
    * type 00000801, and the package becomes *
    * inoperative. An inoperative package *
    * requires an explicit REBIND but the *
    * DBA doesn't get notified right away *
    * that the REBIND is required. The DBA *
    * needs a message such as a console                            *
    * message with the failing package name *
    * in order to construct the REBIND *
    * command for the package. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    * Apply corrective PTF when available *
    ****************************************************************
    When autobind fails, the package receives SQLCODE -904 reason
    code 00E30305, resource type 00000801, and resource name in
    the form of COLLECTION.PACKAGE.CONTOKEN, but there is no
    other message for the DBA to identify the failing package
    quickly. The DBA needs a message such as a console message
    with the failing package name in order to construct
    the REBIND command for the package.

    Additional Keywords:
    SQLCODE904 RC00E30305

Problem conclusion

  • Message DSNT500I will be issued to console:

      DSNT500I  csect-name RESOURCE UNAVAILABLE
                REASON reason-code
                TYPE resource-type
                NAME resource-name

    when an autobind fails which leads to the
    inoperative state being placed on the package.

    The following is a description of the tokens in console
    message DSNT500I:

      reason-code: 00E30305 (existing)
      resource-type: 00000804 (new to include the version
                               identifier in resource-name)
      resource-name: COLLECTION.PACKAGE.(VERSION)
                    (if there is no version identifier, it will
                     be COLLECTION.PACKAGE.() )

                     To facilitate the REBIND command, the
                     resource-name in DSNT500I will be enclosed
                     with quotation mark ("):
                       "COLLECTION"."PACKAGE".("VERSION")
                     If the version identifier doesn't exist:
                       "COLLECTION"."PACKAGE".()

Temporary fix

Comments

  • With this APAR, Db2 will issue console message DSNT500I
    if the automatic rebind fails. In the console message
    the DBA can find the failing package name to construct
    the REBIND command for the package.
