Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED:                                              *
    * All Db2 12 for z/OS users.                                   *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * When running REORG with the FORCE(ALL) *
    * option specified, the utility could *
    * fail to cancel the claimer threads *
    * when requesting a drain, causing a                           *
    * hang to occur.                                               *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When REORG FORCE(ALL) is specified, it will try to cancel read
    and write claimers in order to get a drain. However, if the
    claimer thread is running outside of Db2 address space, the
    cancel will not be processed until the agent is back inside Db2
    address space.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • The fix is to modify the REORG FORCE(ALL) option to issue a
    dummy commit for idle claimer threads to allow a rebind
    request to break in, driving a hard cancel of the agent
    similar to how the -CANCEL THREAD command currently works.
    It is important to note that agents terminated in this manner
    may now abend with reason code 00C50109 instead of 00E50013.
